Istiyak was a legendary king of the Haihayas, a dynasty of the Mahabharata period. He is known for his piety and his devotion to Lord Vishnu. Once, when Istiyak was out hunting, he came across a Naga (snake) king named Takshaka, who was lying ill. Istiyak offered to take care of Takshaka and his wife, and in return, the Nagas helped him during a war against the Paundravas.

Istiyak was also the name of a Jain Tirthankara, who lived during the Avantya or Svetambara Kalpa. He is considered to be the 24th Tirthankara and is also known as Sthulidharma or Sthulabhadra.
