Ibn Sa'd, Al-Tabaqat Al-Kubra, Vol. 1, p. 189-190. Umran ibn Al-Aswad Al-Fihri was a companion of Prophet Muhammad and one of the leaders of the Ansar (Helpers) of Medina. He was also known as Umran ibn Al-Mugheerah Al-Makhzumi, and was a cousin of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Umran played a significant role in the Battle of Uhud (625 CE), where he fought bravely and was one of the few companions who remained with the Prophet when the Muslim army was defeated and retreated back to Medina.
