Ibn Kathir's Al-Bidayah wa'l-Nihayah, volume 12, page 142. According to this reference, Naajy ibn 'Amr al-Misri was a tribal chief who led the Arab forces against the Byzantines at the Battle of Mu'tah in 629 AD, during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab. He was killed in battle and his head was brought back to the caliph as a war trophy. Naajy is also mentioned in early Islamic poetry as a brave and valiant warrior.

According to this reference, Naajy ibn 'Amr al-Misri was also a leader of a group of Arab tribes who settled in Egypt during the early Islamic conquest of the region. He was appointed as the military commander of Fustat, the new Islamic capital, by 'Amr ibn al-'As, the first Arab governor of Egypt. Naajy is remembered in Egyptian history for his role in repelling a major Byzantine attack on Fustat in 640 AD.
