Mashari ibn Al-Ash'ath Al-Farghani was a Persian Muslim mathematician and astronomer. He made significant contributions to the field of trigonometry and is considered the founder of algebraic trigonometry. He lived during the Abbasid Caliphate, in the late 8th and early 9th centuries.

He was a contemporary of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Rida and is best known for his collection of hadith, 'Kitab al-Asma' wa Sifat Rasul Allah' (The Book of Names and Descriptions of the Messenger of Allah). This book is considered one of the most reliable sources of the Prophet's names, attributes, and actions. He lived during the early Islamic period, around the 9th century.
