Maqdeed

Maqdeed holds great significance in Islamic culture as it can refer to various things, notably 'sadaqah jariyah', which translates to 'continuous charity' or 'never-ending endowment'. This is a concept that Aishah, wife of the Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him, introduced, referring to pious acts and charitable endowments that continue to yield rewards in both this life and the hereafter. Additionally, it can also refer to the blessings and favor of Allah SWT, which may descend upon someone unexpectedly and are considered to be the ultimate maqdeed.

From a spiritual perspective, Maqdeed signifies the concept of divine predestination and the unwavering nature of Allah's will. It is a reminder that everything that befalls us - good or bad - is part of Allah's plan for us, and that trust and submission to His will is the key to contentment and inner peace. In the words of Imam Al-Ghazali: “And know that what Allah has ordained for you is better for you than what you desire or choose for yourself." Furthermore, Maqdeed also relates to the idea that the giving of sustenance and blessings ultimately comes from Allah, and acts of charity and generosity enable us to tap into His infinite mercy and grace. This profound spiritual significance of Maqdeed is encapsulated by the following Hadith: “Almsgiving expiates for singing, for wearing silk for men, for taking usury, for a bad smell coming from the nose, for an arrogant step, and for an insolent word.” [Sahih Muslim].
