He was also known as the 'Chief of the Emigrants' and was a highly respected and influential figure among the early Muslim community. Itban ibn Malik al-Hanif was a prominent Arab poet who lived during the pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyah) in the early 6th century AD. He was known for his poetic works praising the virtues of the desert Arabs and their way of life. After the advent of Islam, Itban's poetry was reinterpreted by some scholars to contain Islamic themes, and he is now considered one of the early Islamic poets. However, there is some debate among scholars about the authenticity of these reinterpretations and the extent to which Itban embraced Islam before his death.
