Ghazal

The term "Ghazal" in Sufi poetry refers to a form of poetic composition consisting of a series of couplets on a single theme, preferably love for God or the Beloved (often a muse, a lover, or the Prophet Muhammad himself). The word "Ghazal" was derived from the Persian word "Gazal" which means "revelry" or "wine-tasting party." The Ghazal form developed in the Persian, Urdu, and Turkish languages and has been a significant cultural tradition across the Muslim world for over a thousand years. Ghazals are often recited during Sufi singing sessions, known as "Qawwali," and have influenced the development of various music genres, including Hindi film music.

In the spiritual context, the Ghazal form of poetry serves as a vehicle for expressing deep emotions, longing, and devotion to the divine.
