AryouIslamic Unisex Arabic name meaning

Ibn Khaldun describes a woman named Aryou bint Hisham in his book 'The Muqaddimah'. She was the mother of Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Rushd (Averroes), and was the wife of the Almohad ruler, Abd al-Mu'min. The Almohads were a Berber dynasty that ruled the Maghreb from 1121 to 1269.

Al-Maqrizi, in his book 'Kitab al-Mawā'iz wa-l-I'tibār bi-Dhikr al-Khitat wa-l-Athar', mentions a woman named Aryou bint Mahdi, who was the wife of the Mamluk Sultan, Qansuh al-Ghuri. She was described as a woman of great beauty and intelligence, and was known for her patronage of literature and the arts. The Mamluk Sultanate ruled Egypt and Syria from 1250 to 1517.
