Marwa

Marwa is a significant cultural site in Saudi Arabia, holding immense historical and religious significance. It is a part of the Hajj pilgrimage route, and the seven circles of stone or pebbles around the hill represent the places where Satan failed to tempt the early Muslims during their inaugural pilgrimage in Islamic history. The hill is also a place where Muslims run back and forth seven times as an act of remembrance, perseverance, and submission to God. This ritual act, known as the Sa'y, is a powerful reminder of the struggles and challenges faced by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his wife Hajar as they awaited the arrival of water in the hot desert.

Marwa holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims as it represents the journey towards closeness to Allah SWT (God). The hill symbolizes the struggle towards faith and self-improvement. As pilgrims walk between Safa and Marwa performing the Sa'y the act is said to represent the earlier trials and tribulations faced by Ibrahim and Hajar. Each encircling of Marwa is an opportunity for self-reflection, exhibiting an appreciation for the provisions and blessings bestowed upon us by Allah. The repetitive nature of this act also symbolizes the continuous nature of our spiritual journey in life and a reminder that through determination and faith, we will eventually reach our ultimate goal, which is spiritual growth and closeness to our Creator.
