Another reference to Vyshnavi is found in the Puranas, a set of eighteen Hindu scriptures. In one episode, the goddess Vyshnavi appears to grant a boon to King Mandhata, who had been cursed by the sage Durvasa. The goddess then grants the boon of immortality, under the condition that the king should never be called Mandhata again but instead be addressed as Vyshnava, or ‘protector of Vishnu’.
