Tanasvi is also a character in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. She is the wife of Bhishma Pitamaha and is mentioned as having been cursed by the god Indra, which led to her becoming a demoness who could only be appeased by the sacred horse, Uttarayana. The curse and Tanasvi's subsequent transformation are described in the Anushasana Parva (Book 13) of the Mahabharata.
