Historical Usage
According to Hindu mythology, Sasi is the name of the moon god. It is said that Sasi was once a demon named Rohini's son, who was cursed by the goddess Durga to turn into the moon. This curse was a result of Rohini's jealousy towards the moon, which shone brightly while she was in labor with her son. Sasi is also considered as the consort of the goddess Parvati and is depicted with a crescent moon on his forehead.

Another reference to Sasi in Hindu history is that of Sage Sasi, who was a great sage and a disciple of Sage Vedavyasa. According to the Mahabharata, Sage Sasi was known for his extreme penance and devotion towards Lord Vishnu. He lived in the forest and spent his days in deep meditation and worship of the deity. One day, Lord Vishnu himself appeared before him in the form of a Boar, and granted him a boon. Sage Sasi asked for a place that would always be filled with divine presence, where he could live and meditate peacefully. Lord Vishnu granted him the land of Dwarka, which became a sacred place for Hindus and is still revered today.
