Nanda was a Yadav prince who ruled over Magadha during the time of Buddha. He is traditionally regarded as the foster father of the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama, as the Buddha was raised in Nanda's palace in Kapilavastu after his father Suddhodana renounced his royal duties.
