Historical references
Hiranpriya was the name of a beautiful Apsara (heavenly nymph) in Hindu mythology. She is also known as Hiranyakriti or Hiranyaksha. She was the wife of the demon king Hiranyakasipu, who was a powerful asura (demon) in the Treta Yuga period of Hinduism. Hiranpriya was deeply devoted to Vishnu and pleaded with her husband to worship him. However, Hiranyakasipu, who was proud of his own power, refused to bow down to any god, let alone Vishnu. This led to the incarnation of Vishnu as Narasimha, who appeared in the form of a half-lion, half-human being, to destroy Hiranyakasipu and save the gods and humanity.
Treta Yuga
Hiranpriya was also the name of a princess of the Vatsa kingdom during the Mahabharata period. She was the younger sister of King Prasenajit. She was known for her great beauty and intelligence. She married Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, after their victory in the Kurukshetra war. Hiranpriya was a beloved wife to Arjuna and bore him a son named Bhimisena, who later became known as Bhima Kartavirya, a great warrior and a key figure in the Hindu epic 'Mahabharata'.
