Basudeb Chakraborty, a renowned scholar of Bengali literature and a distinguished educationist, was born on 1 December 1876 in a small village in the Hooghly district in present-day West Bengal, India. He wrote extensively on various topics such as literature, education, philosophy, and history. His most notable works include 'Bharatiya Sahitya' and 'Shikshar Patra'. He played a crucial role in the establishment of Visva-Bharati University founded by Rabindranath Tagore in 1921.

Another Basudeb, also known as Basudeb Chatterjee, was a prominent freedom fighter and a revolutionary leader of the Indian independence movement during the British Raj in India. He was born in 1883 in a village in the Midnapore district in West Bengal, India. He was a close associate of revolutionary leaders like Khudiram Bose and Rashbehari Bose, and took part in various revolutionary activities against the British. He was arrested several times and was sentenced to transportation for life, but he managed to escape from prison twice. He was later shot dead by the British police in 1917.
