Anga

The name "Anga" holds cultural significance as it is mentioned several times in Hindu scriptures and mythology. In the Mahabharata, the Anga people are described as a tribe dwelling in the eastern part of India. According to Hindu mythology, the Anga kingdom was ruled by a great King called Sibi, who is famously known for his immense capacity to bear sufferings. He was believed to have the power to bear an elephant on his head without any harm. Therefore, the name Anga is also associated with strength, endurance, and sovereignty.

In Hinduism, the term "Anga" holds spiritual significance representing the different aspects of the divine or the various facets of God. It is also used metaphorically in spiritual texts to refer to various parts of the human body and soul. For instance, in the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali explains the concept of "Anga Maya Kosha"- the sheaths or layers of the body- mind complex- which includes the physical body (Annamaya Kosha), the vital energy (Pranamaya Kosha), the thought process (Manomaya Kosha), the intellect (Vijanmanamaya Kosha), and the consciousness (Anandamaya Kosha). Thus, the name Anga holds spiritual significance as it symbolizes the unity of God in all parts of creation, be it the human body, a geographical region, or the divine itself.
