Thomas the Apostle was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He was a Galilean Jew, a fisherman by trade, and is called Didymus, or 'the Twin,' because he was a brother of Judas the son of James. Thomas is best known for his doubt, or lack of faith, as recorded in the Gospel of John (20:24-29), when he refused to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead unless he could see and touch the wounds in Jesus' hands and side. After Jesus appeared to Thomas, Thomas professed his faith with the statement 'My Lord and my God!'

Tomás de Torquemada (1410-1498) was a Spanish Catholic priest and a prominent figure during the Spanish Inquisition. He served as the Grand Inquisitor from 1483 to 1498. Tomás de Torquemada is also known for his significant contributions to Spanish literature, particularly for his 'Historia de la Iglesia de España' ('History of the Church in Spain'), which is a comprehensive account of the early history of the Iberian Peninsula. Despite his literary merits, Torquemada is most remembered for his role in the Spanish Inquisition, during which thousands of people were persecuted and sentenced to death for alleged heresies.
