According to tradition, Thekla was a martyr in the 3rd century, born in Cilicia in Asia Minor. She was the daughter of a high-ranking Roman officer named Theophilus. After Paul's death, she went to Myra in Lycia, where she was later arrested for her faith and sentenced to be burnt at the stake. Thekla survived the ordeal and was eventually beheaded, around 235 CE.
