Roselius, a legendary Christian martyr, is said to have lived in the 3rd century AD in the region of Carthage. According to legend, Roselius was a wealthy gentleman who, upon seeing a vision of the Virgin Mary and her infant son, sold all his possessions and went to live as a hermit in the desert. He was later discovered by a group of hunters and, rather than renounce his faith, was tortured and killed. Roselius is venerated as a saint and his feast day is celebrated on January 27.
