Gilead

The name "Gilead" carries a rich cultural significance as it is mentioned several times throughout the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. Historically, Gilead was a region located in the Middle East, east of the Jordan River, and was known for being a place of refuge and shelter. This is demonstrated in the story of Jephthah, who was a fighter and a judicial leader who led the Israelites to victories against their enemies. When he was in exile from his homeland, the elders of Gilead sought him out and asked him to lead their people. Jephthah accepted their offer and successfully defended his birthright and the land, leading the Israelites to peace. The name carries the connotation of a safe haven or a place of restoration.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Jeremiah, who was sent by God to the nations to warn them of impending judgment, declared that God would bring Healing to Gilead. Additionally, in the New Testament, Gilead is mentioned in the book of Matthew when the apostles asked Jesus to teach them to pray, and he gave them the Lord's Prayer, which includes the phrase "Your will be done in Gilead as it is in heaven." This phrase, "Your will be done," signifies a complete submission to God and a willingness to allow His will to be accomplished.
